No way in hell would I pay. If I fixed it in 10 min and they couldn't get the pump to work in 3 hours? I'd do a chargeback and take the video with me to court. No way. Don't pay that.

IVAN is teaching! And, more importantly, he both shows and repeats (common themes over different vids). He shows basic diagnostic strategies... not brain surgery but STILL highly DISCIPLINED. My recent self revelation is that car repair is two parts: (-1-) structured diagnosis/repair, (-2-) frustration abatement. EQUAL PARTS? That 2nd part is compounded by the shop management's pressure to contain time/price. The DIY'er, however, needs his/her car. Last time I traded in a car on new I decided it more prudent to just keep the trade as backup.. (NAPA, and others, do deliver.)

Hi Ivan, I have similar problems with my 99' MB SLK230. It's a no start but will crank 3 times. CAN is at 120 ohms. I'm assuming I can still measure the Ohm's between the HI and LOW with the modules powered down by the K40 relay? I unplugged the ECM and the Ohm reading dropped to OL. Where's the other resistor? Your videos and know how are so helpful.

If you watch Ivan or Eric O @SMA, both work through the system looking at any joint as a possible site for interfearence ( no cheat sheets involved step by step checks are the way to go follow the loom check for defects. O have a small shop we do not fire a parts cannon on any vehicle

Great find on that harness. Those crazy lights probably cooked he module.

If you come to the point of replacing and reprogramming ECUs or modules, time to go to the dealer. Its over 10 years old and 150K miles, things are going to break, though it is not so old the dealer couldn't fix module problems. If he watches the program do all the voltage and ground checks yourself before going to the dealer, put a charger on the system while testing.

Ivan, This one explains so much. Yesterday I had the pleasure of getting a defective NEW reman ford Alternator out of the box. And the one it replaced was Only 3 months old. At the Regulator control wire, (yellow) on the 2008 Explorer 4.6 with 141000 miles!!! Ivan? Do you remember KOEO Voltage at the PCM? I was seeing .22 Mv, KOEO, and 8-10 volts KOER. Is that correct for KOEO? Thanks for what you do!

No need for a scope on that injector to tell you it's not working. If you send power through an injector and it doesn't click, then the injector is bad and needs replacing. That's basically a "bench test" of the injector and it failed. It doesn't get any more basic than that and provides more than enough evidence for a "definitive" diagnosis. It's how we did it before the invention of the scope. Good job on both regardless.

Quick and precise

the truck has fuel pump, filter and regulator all in the module at bottom and there's three nylon flex tubes, plus o-rings connecting pump, filter, regulator and up to the tank plate outlet. could be any of them broken in there, but probably plastic fantastic regulator peeing all over or tubing rubbed out.

Looks like CLIMATE is the problem not the Make of car/Truck.

A potentially valuable piece of info here. See if this makes sense. To equalize the modules, turn on a/c and shift to N so there's not charging. This will run the HV battery down. Then shift to D and you can turn the a/c off. This will charge all the modules up again. The idea here is to equalize the modules in the car without having to put them on the bench and use special equipment to do it. What do we think?

Everything now begins with an hour or two of research. A print out of wire diagrams and flow charts. Dealers do not pay their techs for such foolishness. That's why things don't get solved.

They should colour these cars blue like Recycle bins... These things are absolute trash ready for the Auto-Recycler almost right after you buy them. EURO-TRASH to the max!

My husband's car is doing this right now when it first started. I thought the engine died for good or the fule pump broke. we popped the hood to find the bracket to the air filter had broke and the air intake hose broke with it

I've seen a number of these modern FDM's that have a fuel pressure regulator inside it. It's rare but they sometimes fail. And other times, it's the pump motor no longer has enough power to get the fuel pressure up to spec. That's usually caused when you run the tank dry a few times and the pump motor overheats. I always tell my customers that had a fuel pump replaced to try to retrain your thought that 1/4 of a tank is the new empty. I commonly get told how they can't afford to keep the tank filled like that. My rebuttal is, it's far cheaper to keep a little more fuel in the tank then to pay someone like me to replace your fuel pump.
